Biography
Possessing talents as a multi-instrumentalist whose voice spans three octaves, Debi Smith composes material that reflects both meticulous artisan skill and the depth of a poet. Victories in the Mid-Atlantic, Billboard, and ASCAP songwriter competitions preceded her Wammie honors from the Washington Area Music Association for best new folk and best female vocalist.
Philadelphia marks her birthplace, Falls Church, Virginia her upbringing, and Washington, D.C. her current residence. Four albums emerged from her partnership with younger sister Megan under the name The Smith Sisters. Since 1994 she has belonged to The Four Bitchin' Babes, appearing on two releases by the all-female singer-songwriter supergroup. Two solo albums complete her discography: the 1995 debut In My Dreams, produced by John Jennings, Mary Chapin Carpenter's guitar player, and the 1998 follow-up More Than Once.
