Biography
Not to be mistaken for Dee Dee King, the English pop/rock vocalist Dee King began her path as a secretary tasked with managing the Ivy League fan club. John Carter and Ken Lewis, the band's key managers, granted her an opportunity to cut her own record as recognition for her work. She opted to revisit the Jaynettes' "Sally Go 'Round the Roses," delivering it with notable flair and energy. Issued as a single, the track stands as a modest pop/girl-punk gem whose infectious quality lingers, anchored by her poised lead vocal over spare garage-punk instrumentation that includes organ, guitar, and rhythm section. Additional volume and a couple of discordant guitar accents might have allowed it to resemble a Tryfles session spotlighting Lesya Karpilov. After this brief episode in her recording career, King stepped away from music, only to return later under the name Diane Keene and establish herself as a recognized actress in England.
