Biography
Hailing from Mato Grosso do Sul, the duo Délio e Delinha ranked as the region’s foremost partnership and exerted wide influence on caipira music throughout Brazil. Their 1959 versions of the original rasqueados “Malvada” and “Cidades Irmãs” enjoyed commercial success, while the next year yielded additional classics with the rasqueados “Prenda Querida” and “Querendo Você,” the latter recorded alongside Biguá. In 1961 the pair committed to disc the original cana-verde “Louvor a São João” and the arrasta-pé “Triste Verdade.” Further originals followed in 1962—“Coisinha Querida,” “Goianinha,” and “Estrela do Luar”—all rasqueados that again proved popular, and 1963 brought the maxixe “Mundo de Ilusão” together with the cana-verde “Triste Adeus.” Two more notable compositions from their catalog are the rasqueado “Lembrando Mato Grosso” and the maxixe “Esperança Perdida.” In the 1990s several of these enduring pieces were re-recorded for a CD produced by Paulo Simões, a composer who had himself drawn deep influence from the duo.
