Deluxe serves as the performing alias for Xoel López, the Galician musician behind an alternative pop/rock one-man project that earned widespread critical acclaim while also achieving notable commercial traction. After building an indie following on Mushroom Pillow, López signed with EMI Music Spain. Although his initial releases appeared primarily in English, he later shifted to Spanish, a change that propelled his mainstream breakthrough via the 2003 single "Que No." Born in La Coruña, Galicia, Spain, he launched his recording career as Deluxe with the 2001 album Not What You Had Thought, issued on the independent imprint Mushroom Pillow. Its opening track, "I'll See You in London," scored a hit and launched his trajectory effectively. Around the same period, he recruited a supporting ensemble for live dates, solidifying a reputation as a compelling stage presence. The follow-up, If Things Were to Go Wrong (2003), repeated that success with a mix of English- and Spanish-language material, drawing strong critical praise, yielding the major hit "Que No," and prompting a 2004 special-edition reissue that added bonus tracks. A seven-song EP titled We Create, We Destroy arrived the same year, accompanied by further concert activity. For his third album, Los Jóvenes Mueren Antes de Tiempo (2005), López committed fully to Spanish-language songwriting. The release earned further acclaim and was named Spain’s album of the year by Rolling Stone. On Fin de un Viaje Infinito (2007) he transitioned from Mushroom Pillow to EMI Music Spain, a move that expanded his visibility. That broader profile helped Reconstrucción (2008) reach the Top 30 on the Spanish albums chart.
