Dennis Kamakahi, recognized as a Hawaiian slack key guitarist and songwriter, first appeared in 1973 upon joining the Sons of Hawaii, the ensemble fronted by ukulele virtuoso Eddie Kamae, where he stepped in for guitar legend Pops Gabby Pahinui. His time with the band extended roughly 22 years, a stretch during which he composed multiple classic hulas such as "Pua Hone," "Wahine 'Ilikea," "Koke'e," and "Kou Aloha Mau A Mau." In 1996 he signed with the Dancing Cat label as a solo artist and introduced himself with the acclaimed Pua'ena, an album followed three years later by 'Ohana.
