Biography
Although Denny McLain earned two Cy Young Awards, his renown stemmed overwhelmingly from pitching rather than any musical pursuits, even after he issued a 1969 album showcasing his lounge-style organ performances. Between 1963 and 1970 he took the mound for the Detroit Tigers, after which he moved through stints with the Washington Senators, Oakland Athletics, and Atlanta Braves before closing out his career in 1972. In the years that followed, repeated incarcerations resulted from convictions involving racketeering, extortion, drug possession, and assorted additional charges. He also wrote or collaborated on several books.
