Biography
Phase II Pan Groove steel band arranger Len "Boogsie" Sharpe recruited Denyse Plummer in 1986 to deliver his ensemble’s Panorama entry, launching her emergence as a calypsonian. Two years later she reached the National Calypso Monarchy finals with another pan composition by Len "Boogsie" Sharpe, the song “Woman Is Boss,” while also claiming the Calypso Queen title. Across her career she secured the Calypso Queen crown on four occasions and captured the World Calypso Crown three times. Endowed with a powerful voice and consistently strong songwriting, Plummer produced recordings that remained vibrant and inventive. She passed away on August 27, 2023, at the age of 69.
