Biography
Deride, a Norwegian outfit from Bergen, delivers bold and innovative arrangements while pursuing the established tradition of Northern European metal acts. The group fuses classical allusions typical of heavy metal with fresh, weighty passages, thereby staking out a distinctive place in the genre. Formed in 1995, the band began with Borre H. Michelsen handling vocals, Ole Walaunet on guitar, Johan Alme on bass, and Kjetil Greve behind the drums. Within months the quartet performed its debut show at a Bergen rock venue, where the intensity of the material sparked immediate audience fervor and secured a devoted following from the outset. Over the following two years Deride maintained an active schedule of Norwegian concerts, among them support slots for Entombed. The self-titled demo appeared soon afterward, positioning the group for wider recognition. Lineup changes occurred in 1998 when Michelsen and Alme departed; Walaunet and Greve then recruited vocalist Frediablo and bassist Tarjei Heggernes in 1999, just prior to inking a deal with Music Cartel. Two years of further work culminated in the 2001 release of the debut album Scars of Time.
