Biography
Derrik Jordan, recognized as a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, spent his childhood in Short Hills, New Jersey. The Beatles triggered his decisive turn toward music upon first reaching his ears when Jordan was nine. Guitar lessons began for him at thirteen, coinciding with the launch of his earliest band. Songwriting followed by age fifteen, at which point piano and violin entered the growing set of instruments he commanded. He pursued a music degree at Bennington College, where an attachment to Vermont took hold and eventually drew him to settle in the state. Three years in New York City brought band performances and notable success writing commercial jingles. Session and production credits linked him to albums by Will Ackerman, Lisa McCormick, Lisa Sokolov, Tom Neilson, Natural History, Simba, Gary Rosen, King Happy, and Red Thunder Cloud. The Stockwell Brothers, Angela Bofill, the Embers, O.C. Smith, Lisa Molina, and Urban Speech have all released recordings of his songs. Orchard Records issued his debut solo album, Expecting a Miracle, in March 2000. An instrumental follow-up, Superstring Theory -- Exotic Duets and Improvisations, appeared next. In 2002 the Worldsoul label released Touch the Earth, a vocal album centered on environmental themes.
