Born in New York yet long based in Ireland, comedian and satirist Des Bishop concentrated his creative energies chiefly on unscripted television formats. His earliest screen credit came as a cast member on Don't Feed the Gondolas, a role he left after a testicular cancer diagnosis altered his professional trajectory. Rather than avoiding the subject, Bishop folded the experience directly into his stand-up material, which he had first developed at the International Comedy Cellar beginning in the late 1990s. That personal approach shaped his subsequent projects, beginning with the self-produced series Des Bishop Work Experience, which premiered on Ireland’s RTE network in 2004. Momentum from the show yielded further commissions such as Joy In The Hood and the 2008 outing In the Name of the Fada, while a separate screen appearance placed him in the 2002 feature film In America.
