Devian

Legion, once a tattoo artist as well as Marduk’s vocalist, contacted longtime associate Emil Dragutinovic, the band’s former drummer, and recruited guitarists Joinus and Tomas Nilsson together with bassist Roberth Karlsson to form a new project initially called Elizium. The group soon adopted the name Devian and began circulating its demo among record labels. Eschewing the monochromatic black-metal approach of their earlier outfit, the musicians pursued a more conventional metal style that blended thrash and power-metal elements inspired by Iron Maiden and Morbid Angel. Century Media signed the collection of seasoned players, leading to the release of Ninewinged Serpent in 2008; the album was produced by Rickard Kottelin and mixed by Fredrik Nordstrom.
