Devils Wielding Scimitars

Suzy Callahan supplies Devils Wielding Scimitars with low, haunting vocals in the style of Natalie Merchant, shaping the band's fusion of collective improvisation and memorable melodies that the group itself terms "minimalistic psychedelic folk." Originating in Maryland suburbs, the act cut its first two albums, Curious Soul in 1989 and Worry Dolls in 1991, as a quartet of guitarist Scott Tyburski, bassist Michael Baker, drummer Brandon Finley, and Callahan on vocals. The 1997 album III arrived with a revised lineup in which drummer Kevin Morales joined returning members Tyburski on guitar and Callahan, who added bass duties to her singing.
