Biography
In Saint Louis, Missouri, during 1999, guitarist and songwriter Devon Allman—son of Gregg Allman—launched Honeytribe. Their hard-edged yet expansive blues-based rock, delivered through commanding stage performances, rapidly built a devoted local following that included the Riverfront Times Jam Band of the Year award. Once several demos had been tracked and a handful of festival dates completed, Allman dissolved the band to remain at home with his newborn son. Local and regional solo acoustic appearances continued, as did his songwriting. International stages soon beckoned; he contributed to the album Love, Union, Peace alongside bluesman Javier Vargas, Jack Bruce, Reese Wynans, and others, while also performing at assorted festivals and on MTV Europe. Honeytribe reconvened in 2005 with its original members. The 2006 debut Torch followed, after which the group logged as many as 300 shows annually across 42 states and ten countries, earning festival acclaim worldwide. Growing restless with that earlier sound, Allman trimmed the lineup in 2008 to a power trio completed by bassist George Potsos and drummer Gabriel Strange. In fall 2010 this configuration released Space Age Blues.
