Biography
Devon Church first drew notice through his partnership in the atmospheric dream pop duo Exitmusic, yet his solo recordings, such as the 2018 album We Are Inextricable, link the detailed electro-acoustic textures of that earlier work with the rugged, word-centric style of singer/songwriters like Mark Lanegan.
Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Church refined his vocal delivery and compositional approach using little beyond an acoustic guitar. He launched Exitmusic alongside singer/songwriter/actress Aleksa Palladino; together they issued their independent debut The Decline of the West in 2008, the year of their marriage. The 2011 EP From Silence and the 2012 full-length Passage appeared next on Secretly Canadian, after which the two separated and later divorced. Their final duo effort, The Recognitions, surfaced in April 2018. While those projects unfolded, Church continued developing personal material, and his own debut, We Are Inextricable, arrived on Felte Records in 2018.
