Biography
Dick Sisto, a vibist whose playing has drawn comparisons to Gary Burton and Milt Jackson alike, blends elements of each into a distinctly personal and lyrical approach that avoids mere replication. His introduction to the vibraphone occurred during grade school, with studies persisting into his college years, leading to performances alongside emerging talents such as Maurice White and David Sanborn in various ensembles. The early 1970s saw him move to California, where he engaged in diverse endeavors spanning conventional jazz settings and beyond, encompassing support for Swami Kriyananda and the poet Gary Snyder as well as involvement in Thomas Buckner's Ghost Opera Company. Settling eventually in the Midwest, he incorporated instruction into his activities through a three-year period at the Univeristy of Kentuky, in addition to conducting multiple clinics and educational concerts. These pursuits have paralleled his international tours and recording sessions featuring collaborators like Fred Hersch, Kenny Werner, and Barry Ries.
