Biography
Didi Benami auditioned for American Idol in 2009 and advanced to the Hollywood Round, where her performance of “Terrified”—written by judge Kara Dioguardi—secured her a position among the Top 24. In the weeks that followed she stood out as one of the season’s most emotionally expressive contestants, devoting the majority of her song choices to the memory of a close friend who had passed away several years earlier. Although the judges delivered a blend of favorable and critical feedback on her vocals, her take on the Rolling Stones’ “Play with Fire” earned her a spot in the Top 10. Elimination came the next week, leaving her in tenth place.
