In 1929 Columbia captured three sides that featured blind guitarist Didier Hébert supporting accordionist Dewey Segura, after which Hébert cut the solo performance “I Woke Up One Morning in May” during the same date. An output that modest hardly pointed toward a notable career, yet the appearance of his track on Harry Smith’s Anthology of American Folk Music anthology supplied the Louisiana musician with slightly wider posthumous recognition than most of his 1920s peers enjoyed. The Library of Congress collection Songs of Love, Courtship and Marriage contains the pieces Hébert recorded with Segura.
