Growing up in an Argentinian household, Diego Garcia began his songwriting path by adapting the sonic approach of 1980s Brit-pop acts such as the Cure and the Smiths for listeners in twenty-first-century New York. Serving as Elefant’s frontman, he contributed modestly to the wave of indie rock that defined New York City in the early 2000s, appearing alongside like-minded bands including Longwave and stellastar*. Following the 2006 release of the group’s second album, Elefant paused its activities as members turned to separate endeavors. Although the band reassembled in 2009 to track a third album, the effort lasted only briefly before Elefant declared its permanent dissolution in 2010. Garcia then advanced his solo work, drawing on his Latin heritage to shape a style inspired by Julio Iglesias and Roberto Carlos. He joined Nacional Records late that year and issued his first solo album, Laura, in 2011. Garcia reemerged in 2013 with his second solo album, Paradise.
