Biography
Although Pisador never occupied any formal musical posts in his lifetime, he earned distinction as a leading composer for the vihuela while also gathering and transcribing existing works. His chief legacy remains the volume titled "Libro de musica de vihuela," also rendered as "Book of music for the vihuela." This publication presents numerous pieces and adaptations that Pisador transcribed into tablature for the instrument. Featured among them are compositions by Josquin, Mouton, Morales, Gombert, Fontana, Nola, Willaert, Arcadelt, and Festa. He asserted that he altered not a single note from the master Josquin, yet he added several of his own creations, notably fantasias and variations.
