Biography
Los Angeles alt-metal quartet Diesel Machine came together in 1996 when guitarist Patrick Lachman and vocalist A.J. Cavalier assembled the initial lineup. Canadian drummer Shane Gaalaas came aboard amid his various session and touring work, leading the band to cut a six-song demo before bassist Rich Gonzales, formerly of Recipients of Death, filled out the roster. The group performed regularly on the L.A. club circuit and contributed a track to Dwell Records’ Metallica tribute album Overload. Recording sessions for their debut album began in 1999, yet remained unfinished once Lachman accepted an invitation to play in Rob Halford’s backing band on the 2000 comeback album Resurrection. Following Lachman’s return, Diesel Machine prepared for the early 2001 overseas release of its debut Torture Test, which reached the United States shortly afterward.
