Biography
Emerging from Norway toward the end of the 1990s, heavy metal outfit Divided Multitude introduced a versatile, melody-driven approach rooted in both progressive and power metal traditions. After unveiling its first recording, Inner Self, in 1999, the group sustained its creative momentum by following paths similar to those of Symphony X, Vanden Plas, and Pyramaze, and by delivering a succession of well-received prog-metal albums that included Guardian Angel in 2010 and Faceless Aggressor in 2019.
The ensemble took shape in Brekstad in 1995, its lineup consisting of guitarist/vocalist Sindre Antonsen, guitarist Christer Haroy, bassist Rayner Haroy, keyboardist Eskild Kløften, and drummer Anders Vinje. Prior to the official release of the Sensory Records-issued Inner Self, Divided Multitude circulated two demo recordings, Stranded in 1996 and Tale of Tomorrow in 1997. With the arrival of Falling to Pieces in 2002, the musicians had established themselves as a strong concert draw, performing at events such as ProgPower Europe. Subsequent years saw the members pursue separate endeavors until they reconvened around Divided Multitude in 2007 and commenced work on fresh material. That effort yielded Guardian Angel, issued by Silverwolf Records in 2010. The band’s fourth studio album, Feed on Your Misery, followed in 2013 through Fireball Records, while the independently released and crowd-funded Divided Multitude appeared in 2015. Faceless Aggressor, issued in 2019 and noted for its melodic yet riff-centric character, introduced new vocalist Jan Thore Grefstad, previously known through his affiliations with Highland Glory and Saint Daemon.
