Biography
Dixiana came together as a country outfit in 1986 when brothers Mark, who handled bass and vocals, and Phil Lister, who covered string instruments and vocals, joined forces with keyboardist Randall Griffith and drummer Colonel Shuford. Scheduled for a spot on Nashville Now, the act suddenly found itself without its original lead singer until the Listers’ longtime friend Cindy Murphy, previously of the bluegrass group Wooden Nickel Band, stepped in as the main vocalist. Epic signed the band in 1992, and their debut self-titled album yielded a pair of Top 40 singles in “Waitin’ for the Deal to Go Down” and “That’s What I’m Working on Tonight.” Dixiana’s next release was the standards collection The Gospel Truth. Phil and Mark Lister later put out Classic Gospel Instrumentals, followed by Classic Country Instrumentals, and the pair also served as producers and A&R specialists for the Nashville independent label Red Horse.
