Canadian quartet Dizzy weave an airy dream-pop sound that first surfaced with their 2018 debut Baby Teeth, which earned a Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year. In 2020 they followed up with the Juno-nominated sophomore effort The Sun and Her Scorch. After issuing a handful of EPs, the band revealed greater sonic refinement on their third full-length, the self-titled Dizzy, released in 2023.

The group originated in Oshawa, Ontario, where vocalist Katie Munshaw and guitarist/drummer Charlie Spencer first crossed paths during a high-school math lesson in the mid-2010s and began performing together as an acoustic folk pair. Charlie’s siblings—guitarist Alex and bassist Mackenzie—later joined, completing the original lineup whose indie-pop approach drew from acts such as London Grammar, Radiohead, Stars, and Alvvays. Prompted by suburban ennui and a longing for wider horizons, the quartet started composing songs that would form the basis of their first album, Baby Teeth, issued on Royal Mountain Records in summer 2018. Produced by Damian Taylor (Björk, Arcade Fire, the Killers), the record included the Lorde-esque singles “Stars and Moons,” “Pretty Thing,” and “Swim.” At the 2019 Juno Awards, Dizzy received nominations for Breakthrough Group and Alternative Album of the Year, ultimately taking home the latter trophy.

While preparing their next album, the band first satisfied listeners with the double A-side Heavy/Twist, then unveiled the tracks “Sunflower,” “The Magician,” and “Roman Candles,” all of which appeared on The Sun and Her Scorch, released in summer 2020. The LP again drew recognition, securing another Juno nomination for Alternative Album of the Year. In the interim they issued two EPs—Basement Covers in 2020 and Separate Places in 2021—before rolling out further singles “Barking Dog,” “Birthmark,” and “Open Up Wide,” the earliest previews from their third album, the David Pramik-produced Dizzy, which arrived in 2023.
