Born as Carlos Julio Molina, DJ 13 gained recognition as a Latin hip-hop pioneer in Venezuela through his membership in la Corte, one of the earliest domestic acts to embrace the style. Under the alias Tony Armas he studied art and design in the U.S. alongside Johnny Flecha. After earning a plastic arts degree from San Francisco’s Art Institute, he shifted his focus to popular music and took the name DJ 13 in 1997. His debut album Fivetimesloco incorporated contributions from Argenis Brito, aka Señor Coconut, Sur Carabela’s bassist Ervin Schafer, and singer Annabella Almenar.
