Biography
Born José Antonio “Toto” Bravo in Santiago, Chile, DJ Bitman first rose to attention as one half of the duo Bitman & Roban. His solo career began in 2007 with the release of Latin Bitman on Nacional Records, the Latin alternative imprint where he had already contributed recordings with his earlier group. Working as a DJ, producer, and songwriter, he anchors his sound in hip-hop while incorporating elements of Latin music, electronica, and additional genres. Early work leaned heavily on sampling, a practice reflected in the duo’s name, which referenced “robbing” beats; later projects shifted toward live instrumentation and featured singers who performed primarily in English or Spanish. The initial Bitman & Roban albums, Hurtos (2000) and Robar Es Natural (2002), preceded the group’s international breakthrough with Musica Para Despues de Almuerzo (2006), its third and final release, which spotlighted the popular track “Tatita.” Issued under the DJ Bitman billing, Latin Bitman contained the song “Tropilove,” accompanied by a promotional video.
