Biography
Detroit, MI native DJ Clay built his early reputation as a local DJ, producer, rapper, and mixtape impresario by spinning at house parties and contributing tracks to various Detroit hip-hop releases. The bulk of those party appearances took place under the banner of Psychopathic Records, the imprint founded by the city’s provocative rap group Insane Clown Posse. His breakthrough arrived in 2006 when Shaggy 2 Dope tapped him to serve as DJ for the F.T.F.O. tour; the onstage partnership proved so successful that Clay was subsequently enlisted to handle DJ duties for Insane Clown Posse and the label’s supergroup Dark Lotus on every forthcoming tour. While those live commitments grew, his studio work also began attracting attention. Redirecting focus from Psychopathic to its affiliated mixtape imprint Hatchet House, he issued the first installment of his Let ’Em Bleed series in 2008. (An earlier project, The W-E-R-O-B-U Mixtape, Vol. 1, had appeared in 2007 via A.R. Entertainment.) The follow-up volume arrived later that same year. In his parallel role as producer and featured contributor, Clay lent his skills to five full-length Psychopathic releases alongside ICP, Twiztid, and Dark Lotus.
