Biography
Born in Providence, RI, during the early 1970s, Eclipse had already established himself as a sought-after and well-regarded DJ by the time he relocated to Columbia, SC, in 1985. He departed South Carolina for New York in 1992 to helm production duties on MC Serch’s second album—an artist he had first encountered in Columbia—yet the project remained unreleased after complications arose with Def Jam. While handling retail promotion at Wild Pitch Records in 1994, Eclipse crossed paths with Sabac, who joined forces with Ill Bill and Goretex to establish Non Phixion the following year. He later transitioned to Fat Beats Records, where he also served as DJ for groups including Natural Elements, Beatnuts, and 3rd Bass. In 2002 Eclipse stepped away from Fat Beats to co-manage Uncle Howie Records alongside bandmate Ill Bill, who at last delivered Non Phixion’s debut full-length, The Future Is Now, that same year. In addition to issuing numerous mixtapes and compilations, DJ Eclipse hosted the respected hip-hop broadcast The Halftime Show on WNYU.
