Biography
Nicholas Sorel, who performs as DJ Head Honcho, arrived in Pawtucket, RI, and spent his first three months inside an incubator after a severe jaundice episode that demanded an entire blood transfusion. When he states "I'm a fighter," the claim rests on that beginning and the path that followed. As a child he fixated on two pursuits: amassing sneakers and absorbing hip-hop. While stacks of footwear kept rising, music supplied a route that could become a livelihood. At thirteen he acquired his first DJ rig. Twelve months later came an initial club booking, and once he reached driving age he had already issued his debut mixtape and broadcast a radio set. By 2006 he was delivering high-energy blends of hip-hop, R&B, reggaeton, and mash-ups across AOL Radio’s Mixtape station. He also appeared regularly on multiple Rhode Island stations and handled production for Def Jam’s da Ranjahz, Scott Storch protégé Hawk, and assorted others. Underground notice arrived when he and longtime collaborator DJ EFN hosted rapper OnCue’s hit 2006 mixtape Listen to My Damn Demo.
