DJ Lilman serves as a mainstay of New Jersey nightlife while specializing in Brick City club music, an energetic regional variant comparable to Baltimore club and New Orleans bounce. Originally named Keith Brown and raised in Newark, he abandoned engineering coursework at William Paterson University to devote himself entirely to music. Organizing gatherings across the state helped him develop an audience, and he introduced his first single, "Swing That," in 2003. Subsequent releases routinely incorporated matching dance steps, with directions frequently embedded in the lyrics. After scoring tracks such as "Sexy Walk," "Left Right," and "The Patty Cake," he issued the extended dance anthology Mr. New Jersey in 2013. Consistent with his upbeat image, the project contained numbers including "Booty Shake," "Urkel Dance," and "Baby Got Back, Pt. 2." The 2016 follow-up I Said It's Lilman spotlighted cuts like "Bounce" and "This Is 4 the Butts."
