DJ Logic

DJ Logic, born Jason Kibler, gained recognition for fusing jazz sensibilities into hip-hop through his command of the turntables. Raised in the Bronx, he launched his career behind the decks during the 1980s at neighborhood functions. Professional momentum built quickly in the decade that followed. He first entered the group Eye & I, sharing bills with Living Color and Body Count. He next aligned with the jazz trio MMW—keyboardist John Medeski, drummer Billy Martin, and bassist Chris Wood—logging heavy road time and contributing to the well-regarded Combustication album. His own debut, Project Logic, arrived in 1999 and earned broad critical favor. Two years afterward, the forward-looking Anomaly again drew strong notices. In 2002 he teamed with guitarist Vernon Reid to record Front End Lifter as Yohimbe Brothers and supported the release with shows late that year.
