Following their British Top 50 success with "Holding On," a track that wove floral trance textures around the central motif of O.M.D.'s "Maid of Orleans," the anonymous producer duo DJ Manta positioned themselves as the Gatecrasher generation's one-dimensional KLF. The single, said to have been composed for amusement and completed within six hours, first appeared on Germany's Reef Records; afterward the duo secured a broader deal with AM:PM during a haze of alcohol at 1999's Miami Winter Music Conference. In several respects a follow-up, "Music Will Bring Us Together" resonated through the 2001 Love Parade sound systems, its fond yet pointed fusion of contemporary dance with ABBA's "Lay All Your Love on Me" leading certain observers to conclude that this was the full extent of DJ Manta's approach.
