While employed at a record store, DJ Patife first encountered the drum'n'bass world through his connection with friend DJ Marky. His initial performance occurred at Arena Music Hall in São Paulo. In 1997 he journeyed to Europe alongside Marky and stood beside Roni Size during the handover of the Mercury Prize. Growing recognition led Patife to issue his debut album, Sounds of Drum'n'bass, in 2000. Positive notices from England’s Muzik and MixMag prompted an offer to launch the project in that market. The same year Patife joined Marky and the Drumagick duo for a São Paulo concert attended by 5,000 people. His remix of Max de Castro’s “Pra Você Lembrar” caught on in London’s club circuit and landed on playlists compiled by major UK dance publications. Three of his tracks appeared on the Brazil EP compilation that V Recordings released in England. Also in 2000 he contributed to Otto’s double-CD set Changez Tout - Samba Pra Burro Dissecado and to Fernanda Porto’s album. Patife performed at the 2001 edition of Rock in Rio and, later that year, played shows in the U.S., Scotland, London, and Amsterdam.
