Born in New York City, DJ Short-E serves as a record label head, nightclub owner, and DJ on AOL Radio's mixtape station. A family vacation sparked his affection for Florida, prompting a move to Tampa at age 18 to sidestep the War of the Roses-style divorce unfolding between his parents. The year was 1996, when Short-E observed Tampa's thriving party scene alongside its resistance to hip-hop's arrival. Shifting from freestyle to hip-hop DJ work, he entered at the foundational stage by transporting crates of N.Y.C. hip-hop precisely as rap captivated Florida. He took on partial ownership of Tampa's Rain Lounge, the bustling nightspot whose sushi and sake café highlights the signature "Short-E Roll." Even as his evenings involve DJing Tampa's many celebrity parties, Short-E maintains street ties through his partnership with rapper Verbal Science. Together they released the single "Whatchu Ridin' On" via Short-E's Hot4Eva label, with its video showcasing appearances by Paul Wall, Mike Jones, T-Pain, Tony Yayo, and Jacob the Jeweler.
