Biography
The fourth participant in Roni Size’s Reprazent lineup has advanced steadily, if unobtrusively, across successive releases. An interest in shifting time signatures surfaces most clearly on the Free Beat EP issued by Full Cycle, lending his productions an abstract quality that stems less from calculated eccentricity than from resistance to what he viewed as rigid conventions within drum’n’bass. Frequently introspective in tone, his output has steered clear of the high-impact tracks preferred by peers Die and Krust, opting instead for expansive vinyl statements in which broad atmospheric layers are punctuated by melodic accents and bass figures that stretch to occupy the room left by the rhythms. Although his first full-length effort under the name DJ Suv, Desert Rose, earned widespread praise for interleaving numerous non-British influences with the characteristic Bristolian low-end weight, the sporadic collaborations he has recorded with vocalist Virginia under the Reeltime banner now rank among the most eagerly awaited side ventures to emerge since Breakbeat Era.
