Biography
DJ Taye, a Chicago footwork producer, first gained recognition as one of the youngest members of the Teklife crew after affiliating with the collective in 2010. Born in 1994, he started creating hip-hop beats and delivering raps by the time he turned 11, then discovered the music of DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn in 2007. Captivated by the rapid rhythms, deep low-end, and sliced-up samples, he soon began crafting his own material in that idiom and accumulated numerous digital releases along with mix appearances. Several of his tracks landed on Hyperdub’s 2014 compilations Hyperdub 10.1 and Next Life, after which the label signed him and issued his debut vinyl EP, Break It Down, the next year. His follow-up EP for the imprint, Move Out, surfaced in 2016. The full-length Still Trippin’ arrived in 2018, showcasing appearances by DJ Manny, DJ Paypal, and UNIIQU3 together with Taye’s own singing and rapping, and stood out as one of the most accessible, song-oriented statements to surface from the footwork scene.
