Biography
DOG Power emerged by blending the indie pop and experimental backgrounds of its members into a darkly compelling sonic identity shaped by Suicide and the Jesus and Mary Chain, as heard on releases including the self-titled mini-album from 2018.
The band originated in Christchurch, New Zealand during 2017 when Sam Perry, previously of indie rockers Zen Mantra and the synth-pop act Yumi Zouma, teamed with experimental musician Henry Nicol. Their work began at LOG Recording, the venue and studio positioned near the city’s industrial zone, where a shared interest in cinematic sounds and visuals shaped the partnership. Perry and Nicol later relocated to Belgrade, Serbia to dedicate themselves fully to the music, leading Flying Nun to issue DOG Power’s self-titled mini album in November 2018.
