Biography
Seattle outfit Doll Factory fuses throbbing electronic elements with robust rock characteristics to forge fresh paths within industrial rock. The project originated with Garrick Antikajian and Chris Roy, who have performed and composed material together since the late 1980s. Taking cues from acts such as the Cure and Nitzer Ebb, the pair first convened as Crown of Thorns with drummer Rick Molloy. Their output blended sonic construction with poetic multimedia adaptations of literary sources, among them George Orwell's 1984. Opting to revise the name, they looked to Picasso's Guernica painting and thereby launched the band Guernica. Augmented by drummer Quentin Furrow and bassist Travis Harrison, they generated numerous demo tapes along with self-released cassettes before Antikajian exited during the mid-1990s. Roy carried on under the Guernica name yet recognized that his direction lacked Antikajian's lyrical input, leading the two musicians to reconvene as Doll Factory. The collective issued its opening recording, the EP Premonition, in 1999 and has since appeared on multiple compilations while developing a debut full-length album.
