The enigmatic figure Domenique Dumont crafts hazy, wistful electronic music steeped in exotica, library music, and synth pop. Early on, the project was presented as a trio whose whimsical Balearic French pop fusion first surfaced on the 2015 release Comme Ça. By contrast, the 2020 album People on Sunday appeared under a solo credit, serving as a sweet yet haunting score for the 1930 German silent film Menschen am Sonntag.

At the outset, Domenique Dumont was described as a collaboration among Latvian producer Anete Stuce, singer Artūrs Liepiņš, and an unnamed French artist who may have been fictional. After forming in 2013 and casually uploading a handful of tracks, the group saw its debut mini-album, Comme Ça, issued by the French label Antinote in 2015. Playful pieces such as “L’Esprit de L’Escalier” reached an underground listenership, while the 2018 full-length Miniatures de Auto Rhythm likewise drew both praise and puzzlement. Dumont was subsequently asked to score the 1930 German silent film Menschen am Sonntag, and the resulting music accompanied a screening at the Les Arcs Film Festival in the French Alps during December 2019. The Leaf Label later issued that score as the full-length People on Sunday in 2020.
