Emerging as a notable presence across both operatic and symphonic spheres, Domingo Hindoyan traces his early development to the El Sistema music education program. He currently serves as chief conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Born February 15, 1980, in Caracas, Venezuela, Hindoyan grew up with a father named Domingo Garcia who performed as a violinist in the Orquesta Sinfónica Venezuela, while his mother worked as an attorney after being born in Syria to parents of Armenian descent. He first studied violin through Venezuela’s renowned El Sistema initiative before turning to conducting and entering the Haute École de Musique de Genève in Switzerland, where he trained under Laurent Gay and graduated with highest honors. In 2012 he joined the Allianz International Conductors’ Academy, receiving instruction from Esa-Pekka Salonen and Sir Andrew Davis while collaborating with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra; he later participated in master classes led by Bernard Haitink, David Zinman, and Jesús López Cobos.

Hindoyan launched his professional path in 2013 as first assistant conductor to Daniel Barenboim at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, soon advancing to guest conductor and leading numerous productions, among them Stravinsky’s ballet The Rite of Spring. Additional guest engagements followed at the Bergen National Opera in Norway, where he conducted Rossini’s Il turco in Italia, and at the Opéra national de Lorraine with the same composer’s Semiramide. In January 2018 he made his Metropolitan Opera debut in New York leading Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore; over the next two seasons he appeared for the first time at the Lyric Opera of Chicago with Puccini’s La Bohème, the Vienna State Opera, and the Liceu Grand Theater in Barcelona.

Concurrently he established himself with guest podium appearances alongside major ensembles including the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège. In 2019 he was appointed principal guest conductor of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, and in 2020 he assumed the chief conductor position with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in England. His first recording, issued in 2022 on the Onyx Classics label with that orchestra, featured works by Debussy, Dukas, and Roussel.
