Biography
Ron Carroll has earned his greatest acclaim through lead vocals on classic Chicago house productions, in contrast to his work behind the decks. Active from the genre’s formative period, he performed both as a DJ and a singer in tandem with scene stalwarts Frankie Knuckles, Kim English, and Crystal Waters. A pivotal opportunity arrived in 1994 when Little Louie Vega commissioned him to compose material for house diva vocalist Barbara Tucker; the resulting single, “I Get Lifted,” reached the top of the Billboard Dance Chart and was succeeded by additional charting releases over the next several years. Early in 2001 Carroll demonstrated his mixing abilities on the compilation Sessions, Vol. 3 while also contributing guest vocals to a recording by the European disco-funk outfit Superfunk.
