Emerging first under the agreement Ice-T forged between Rhyme Syndicate and Epic Records, Donald D left only a modest mark across the 1990s. His debut release, ‘FBI (Free Base Institute)’, drove home an anti-drugs message, yet the same album revealed a tone-deaf streak on cuts such as ‘Just Suck’, which openly celebrated the Rhyme Syndicate’s gangbanging exploits. Although he later settled on the west coast, Donald D’s origins lay in the Bronx. He crossed paths with Ice-T in 1985 during a California visit that also included Afrika Islam, who would eventually co-produce Notorious.
