The lineage of Donn Thompson stretches across generations in music. Known professionally as Donn T, this alternative R&B vocalist and composer stands out as the granddaughter of Beachy Thompson from the Dixie Hummingbirds, the offspring of Lee Andrews from Lee Andrews & the Hearts along with Jacqui Andrews, formerly of Congress Alley alongside Lee, and the sibling to Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson from the Roots. Under the solo name Donn in 2006, her contribution appeared on an altered rendition of Radiohead's "Morning Bell" from the Randy Watson Experience, the side endeavor by Questlove and James Poyser that nods to Coming to America. The album Kaleidoscopic marked her first release, crafted under the production of Simbad, a preferred artist of Gilles Peterson, and issued through MoreAboutMusic in 2010. She then partnered with British producer Matthew Bandy for the 2011 single "Grass Is Greener," drawing from broken beat styles. In 2014, "Midnight" served as the inaugural output on her own D-Tone Victorious imprint, presenting a robust track that incorporates a spoken monologue as an uncommon nostalgic element. This track formed the core of the Gramophonica EP, which spans four selections and sets the stage for the 2015 full-length Flight of the Donn T.
