Though Donny Most remains indelibly linked to his portrayal of Ralph Malph on the popular 1970s series Happy Days, he devoted considerable effort to a parallel path in music. This pursuit began during the height of the show's popularity with the issuance of a lighthearted pop record in 1976; in later years, he gravitated toward classic standards, performing in intimate nightclub settings and issuing a seasonal collection in 2016.

His trajectory in the arts has taken unexpected turns, revealing a consistent knack for aligning with prevailing currents. Born in Flatbush, Brooklyn, he attended Lehigh University for three years from 1970 to 1973 before relocating to Hollywood in search of fame. There, he landed the part of Ralph Malph in Garry Marshall's Happy Days, debuting on the program in 1974. The series' massive success enabled him to produce a 1976 album, now viewed as a relic of its era that failed to resonate commercially. Happy Days continued airing through 1983, after which Most took on guest and supporting parts across numerous programs, including Dungeons & Dragons, Teen Wolf, Murder, She Wrote, and Baywatch. He maintained consistent work into the 1990s and 2000s, with appearances in successful series such as Bones and Glee alongside lesser-known projects. Around the mid-2010s, he turned toward cabaret-style performances, an approach captured on the traditional holiday album Swinging Down the Chimney Tonight, which came out toward the end of 2016. This effort marked the beginning of renewed activity in the studio, leading to the February 2017 release of D Most: Mostly Swinging.
