Biography
With over two decades immersed in country music, Donny Parenteau originated from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, where he accumulated numerous honors and commanded respect both within and beyond his primary style. Although the fiddle served as his central instrument, he also attained proficiency on mandolin and guitar while delivering vocals. In 1991 he left Canada to tour with Neal McCoy, the established country figure, and during the ensuing twelve years based largely in Nashville he performed alongside the star whenever shows required travel. After returning home, Parenteau launched his solo work from Prince Albert in 2003. The opening three years brought regional prizes along with Canadian Aboriginal music awards, highlighted by the strong impact of his 2006 album What It Takes. Accolades continued through 2007 with further wins, and in 2008 he received a nomination for the Juno Awards, Canada’s top music distinction.
