Montreal-based trio Doomsquad has moved through an array of sounds across their existence, spanning darkwave to disco, yet a consistent spiritual and otherworldly essence has remained central to their output. The three siblings began in a folk mode before pivoting toward dark dream pop and noise rock across the preparatory EPs that preceded their first long-player, the 2014 release Kalaboogie. Later works such as Total Time in 2016 merged psychedelic textures with dancefloor energy, while Let Yourself Be Seen from 2019 introduced more explicit political themes in the lyrics.

Allie, Trevor, and Jaclyn Blumas launched the project in the late 2000s after treating music-making as a lighthearted private jest that exaggerated their sibling dynamic through ironic, Carter Family-styled folk. They issued the self-released EP Die in that vein before committing more fully and abandoning it for a darker electronic approach drawing from indie alongside goth and industrial influences. Refusing to settle on a single lane, the group sampled dream pop, electro, noise rock, and witch house. The Land o' the Silver Birch cassette surfaced in 2011, with a self-titled EP and the Ovoo digital single following in 2013. Kalaboogie, their debut album, emerged in 2014 via the Canadian imprint Hand Drawn Dracula. The 2015 EP Pageantry Suite, issued jointly by British label Bella Union, shifted noticeably toward faster tempos and stronger dance elements compared with earlier material. Their second album, Total Time, arrived the next year and sustained that direction. For the third album, the cathartic and politically charged Let Yourself Be Seen, the trio drew inspiration from acid house, West African disco, spiritual jazz, N.Y.C. no-wave, and new age ambient music.
