Listen on Coda
Doug Ferony belongs to the vocal tradition exemplified by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Bobby Darin, artists whose approach shaped his own stage presence. He navigates the familiar territory of classic standards and traditional pop with ease, infusing these established pieces with novel interpretations that he conveys through a straightforward yet richly melodic baritone voice. His debut effort as producer, the 1996 release This One's for You, demonstrated his versatility across both expansive orchestral arrangements and intimate ensemble formats. A deep affinity for big band sounds originally motivated his entry into professional singing. Ferony has collaborated multiple times with the accomplished vocalist, arranger, and pianist Dena de Rose, who contributed to This One's for You and provided exclusive accompaniment for Time After Time, regarded as one of his standout recordings. Beyond the recording studio, he has performed across various venues in the hotel, concert, and nightclub scenes, notably at Tavern on the Green in New York as well as gambling establishments in Atlantic City and Las Vegas. In 1997, he performed the national anthem to inaugurate the U.S. Open Tennis championships. As a full member of the Screen Actors Guild, Ferony has taken roles in productions including Goodfellas, Back to School, You've Got Mail, Law & Order, and the HBO series OZ. During periods away from live performances and studio commitments in television, cinema, or music, he finds pleasure in revisiting the work of his inspirations, among them Rosemary Clooney, the Buddy Rich Band, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Diana Krall.
