Biography
Doug MacDonald stands out as a skilled bop-rooted guitarist who follows directly in the lineage of Herb Ellis, Barney Kessel, and Joe Pass. Honolulu served as his childhood home, where he first picked up the trombone for a short time before switching to guitar at age thirteen. After spending a year in Las Vegas, he shifted to Los Angeles in 1984 and quickly built a reputation through freelance work. New York became his next base when he moved there in 1990. Throughout his career MacDonald has collaborated with leading figures such as Stan Getz, Sarah Vaughan, Buddy Rich, Hank Jones, Bob Cooper, Bill Holman, and Jack Sheldon, among many others. His recording credits include sessions with Sheldon and the Clayton-Hamilton Orchestra, plus several albums under his own name for the Cexton and Resurgent labels, one of which features his nonet.
