Biography
Born into an artistic household on Nova Scotia’s Cape Breton Island, singer-songwriter Douglas September began writing poetry and playing guitar by the age of thirteen, drawing on literature and folk traditions to shape his early material.
After finishing high school he relocated to Toronto, quickly becoming a regular presence on the city’s coffeehouse stages and festival circuit. His independently issued debut, Crows, drew local notice and secured a slot at the 1997 South By Southwest Conference in Austin, Texas. Former Santana drummer Michael Shrieve caught the performance and went on to produce and play drums on September’s 1998 album Ten Bulls, which also highlighted the guitar work of Bill Frisell. Io appeared the next year.
