Biography
Dr. N. Rajam entrances listeners through her violin playing, which combines an almost enchanted quality with absolute precision of touch. Her initial lessons came from her father, Arupathi Natesa Iyer, and she later studied under the distinguished vocalist Omkarnath Thakur. In the notes accompanying her Music Today album, she recalls her guru’s counsel with the words: "Approach the musical notes with utmost tenderness, love and humility, caress them, cajole them." She has clearly absorbed that guidance into her own practice.
