At the forefront of Detroit's emerging rap movement, Drego & Beno established themselves as local icons during the second half of the 2010s through a string of catchy street tracks. Drego first gained traction via his appearance on Sada Baby's now-iconic "Bloxk Party," prompting him to join forces with longtime associate Lil Beno and launch the duo in early 2018. Their initial release, the July 2018 mixtape Sorry for the Get Off, showcased a knack for the buoyant beats typical of contemporary Detroit rap.

Although Drego had already cultivated a regional audience in the city by the close of the decade, that recognition was soon overshadowed by the 2018 breakout single "Bloxk Party," viewed more than 80 million times and widely viewed as the pivotal record anchoring the modern Detroit sound. Capitalizing on the exposure, he reunited with childhood friend Lil Beno to create Drego & Beno, whose debut project Sorry for the Get Off arrived that summer and highlighted their affinity for energetic, up-tempo production. Later that year the pair issued two additional tapes: Meet Us Outer Space, which applied their approach to prevailing trap aesthetics, and Sorry for the AutoTune, which circled back to the more regionally grounded style of their origins.
